4 /5 Nightrider: I took my family here one morning recently for breakfast, and I have to say I was impressed and had a great meal and experience. As soon as we entered we were greeted with a smile and shown to a table which was clean and plenty of space (I’m a big fella). The menu is what you’d expect from a typical greasy spoon, but the prices are very reasonable. We decided to all order from the “create your own breakfast” menu, which is a great idea as you don’t have to worry about asking to sub out things you don’t like from set breakfasts. The prices are very reasonable, ranging from 85p-1.20 per item, and some of them include 2 items for the single price, such as 2 hash browns for 85p, or 2 bacon for 1.20). I ordered a huge plate of food including a sausage, 2 bacon, 2 black pudding, fried bread, beans, fried egg and a coke- which all came to about 6 quid. That to me is a great deal considering it’s all including the bread item and drink, which most other places will come to more. Overall, it was a great meal which filled me up and was all cooked well (amazing fried bread) and came out in lightning quick time with no mistakes. If I had to criticise anything, I would say the bacon was a little pedestrian and average supermarket tasting, and the black pudding was a bit bland and looked to be a cheaper brand. However, for the price the breakfast was great, service was perfect and I would definitely come here again for a fry up.
Remember this is just based on a fry up, not the other meals on the menu. I’ve read other reviews slamming the lunch and dinner stuff, but as far as the breakfasts are concerned I think they’re great!
EDIT: I recently went here again to escape the heatwave and had a pleasant lunch and drink. Burgers are simple but tasty and cheap, and the chips are nice and crispy. This place is the backbone of ordinary people in Canterbury, serving simple honest food for value prices, and the service is great!
