Have been to steakhouse places but this really is a place of great food and ambiance, simple yet elegant, so relaxing that we’ve stayed nearly 2hours just chatting and enjoying the food. The reception desk was attentive. We went around half past one, the place was not crowded but later on crowd turned up. Food was served on time, the steak was really good. In addition, before the meal they have given us a beef-dripping popcorn which is really really good - this is a plus! Customer service was excellent, they were busy but very approachable, especially to Charde who has assisted us brilliantly! Also prices are reasonable and they do have a lunch-early-dinner menu available apart from the main menu. Located near the dockyard. A great recommendation! Parking (as in free parking) is quite difficult to find, but carpark is available behind the restaurant.

5 /5 Ian Davies: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We visited Bar + Block Portsmouth last night to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and our server, Val, truly made the evening special. Val was absolutely amazing – friendly, attentive, and so genuine in the way she made my wife feel celebrated. It wasn’t just great service; she went above and beyond to make the occasion memorable. She is a real credit to the restaurant. The food itself was incredible – cooked perfectly and full of flavour. But for me, dining out isn’t only about the food, it’s about the whole experience, and Val really elevated ours. Thank you to the team, and especially Val, for giving us such a wonderful evening. We’ll definitely be back!

2 /5 Luke Noble: Really difficult to get hold of staff, no one to be seen. But when around theyre lovely. Steak tastes cheap quality. Peppercorn sauce lacks flavour. Diane sauce is good. Steak sauce (advised by waitress is like HP, great on chips, far too strong for steak). Chimmichurri is too oily. Salad is similar to harvester or pizza hut. Spinach too watery Asparagus overcooked If youre looking for a small step up from a Beefeater, youre in the right spot.

5 /5 Joann Robertson: Had an excellent meal at Bar + Block Portsmouth recently. The steak was cooked perfectly - nice char on the outside, tender and juicy inside. The hand-cut chips served in the cast iron skillet were crispy and well-seasoned, and the sauce had good depth of flavour. The presentation was thoughtful, particularly liked the slate board serving style. The fresh salad and asparagus were well-prepared and showed they handle vegetables as well as they do meat. Service was efficient and friendly without being overbearing. Good value for the quality you get. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between casual and refined. Solid choice for a steak dinner in Portsmouth. Would go back.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
