4 /5 Colin Gilham: Reviewing multiple visits - first time with friends, second time to check out some beers for our venue.
First visit on a Saturday was just what youd expect - busy and vibrant. Next one, midweek was a quieter affair but no less enjoyable.
Abyss have created a great outdoor space in the shadow of the old mill building; when its packed with people it can be loud without being overwhelming.
Indoors is quite different. Youre in the brewhouse, with its original mill floors, surrounded by steel, ingredients and containers and you really get a sense of being close to the process that made your beer.
Despite being in a brewery, Abyss have created a great atmosphere - low lighting, music at the right level and, despite the high ceilings, there is no ringing echo, just a really good buzz.
As youd expect, a brilliant range of beers and more, to cater for all tastes with a lean towards modern styles than trad.
Staff are fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable about the products and, at less busy times when they have time, are happy to chat.
Didnt eat so cant rate the food, but it looked great and heard from others that it is.
If you really want to get an appreciation of how much work goes into making the taproom what it is, pay them a visit during non-taproom hours - you wont recognise it!
