4 /5 Mikiko A: We experienced a train delay before our outing and had to request a last-minute time shift — the team at London Street Brasserie handled it smoothly and moved our arrival time without any fuss.
The atmosphere was stylish yet cosy, with bright windows and lovely views over the river. We were warmly welcomed, and our drinks and food were served in perfect timing throughout the meal.
I chose the Smoked haddock kedgeree (Indian-spiced basmati rice with scallion, peas & poached bantam egg) as my starter, and then the Jacob’s ladder short rib beef slow braised in Chianti, with lardons, button onions, mushrooms & rosemary-parmesan polenta for my main. Both were beautifully presented and full of flavour, though the beef dish felt a little rich for my taste.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, though it would have been nice to be checked on during the meal rather than only at the end when we paid. Still, overall our experience was positive. We weren’t rushed, we had space to relax, and we really enjoyed our outing in such a beautiful setting. I’d happily recommend London Street Brasserie for a lovely meal in Reading.
