5 /5 Donna Radley: Amazing food, everything! Cooked well, great choices, friendly services, comfortable atmosphere and werent made to rush. The brownie is a must for chocolate lovers. Wow that was a punch of heaven, I had to take some home, couldnt finish it and the calamari, utter perfection! Portions were ample so arrive with an appetite.

4 /5 Go Travel: Overall I would like to say we were pleased with the portion sizes and the dishes were very tasty and well presented. However it was a Tuesday evening and the place was basically empty, all the dishes took over an hour to make and two staff members so everything was very slow. Even the drinks took ages and we were right by the bar. I would recommend this restaurant as it’s an affordable restaurant with very nice dishes.

5 /5 Giarcann: I visited Osteria Due Amici in Upminster with fairly neutral expectations. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect—especially from a menu that stretches far beyond traditional Italian cooking. But from the moment I walked in to the moment I left, the experience genuinely surprised me in the best way. It’s one of those places that quietly exceeds the neutral assumptions you walk in with. Atmosphere The moment I walked in, the space felt welcoming and warm. The seating was comfortable without feeling cramped, and everything around me looked spotless. Even the glasses had that fresh shine that instantly tells you someone pays attention to details. Service The service was genuinely faultless. Staff were friendly without being intrusive and seemed to appear exactly when needed—whether we were finished with plates, ready for more drinks, or asking to have food packed. It felt attentive in a natural, unforced way. Food I’ll admit, I had my doubts at first. The menu covers such a broad range of cuisines for an Italian restaurant—from katsu curry to beef wellington—that I expected the experience to be unfocused. Usually when a place tries to please everyone, the quality ends up suffering. But I was pleasantly surprised. We started with the shared board, offering a mix of Italian favourites: Calamari, Arancini, Focaccia, and a range of meats. The quality was impressive across the board, especially the meats, which were full of flavour and felt worth the price alone. The Asian-inspired crispy beef felt like a strange addition on paper, but it turned out to be one of the standout items—tender, packed with flavour, and executed perfectly. The parmesan chicken with linguine had great depth. The chicken stayed juicy, and the subtle chilli running through the pasta added a warm background kick that balanced the dish nicely. The Toma pork was another strong dish. Juicy and well-cooked, paired with smooth mash and apple sauce. What really tied the whole thing together was the red wine jus, which brought the flavours together beautifully. Portion sizes were generous for every dish—especially the sharing platter, which could easily feed four—and the quality remained consistently high throughout. Facilities The restroom is often the tell-tale sign of how a restaurant runs behind the scenes. Again, no complaints. It was clean and well maintained. The restaurant was quiet when we visited, but even so, the general cleanliness was reassuring. Overall Price Our total came to £87. Considering the generous portions and consistent quality, it felt more than fair and absolutely worth the cost. I would highly recommend Osteria Due Amici, and I can say with certainty I will be back again.

2 /5 Darren: Not typically one to post a comment on a restaurant experience but I have to convey the sentiment of the other latest contributor, particularly with the somewhat miserable and sour faced waitress, devoid of any hospitality and general personality (the somewhat spotty young girl). Have also been to the restaurant before and fairly certain she was also serving then as well, hence the feedback here. If you are going to work in a front facing role like this you really have to have a certain type of personality and people skills. If you think this type of job is beneath you, or you just cant be bothered offering any pleasantness, please find another job. Not only is the job clearly one you cant stand, but it ends up with people leaving reviews like this. For the record as well, customers dont enjoy being served by someone like this either, so its a lose lose all round. To also reflect the experience of the other recent reviewer, I must say the food was fairly mediocre as well. I think the restaurant is meant to be suggested as the best local Italian restaurant and possibly best all round local restaurant, but this certainly isnt my experience. On a plus note, I would however like to mention the young boy who also part served us. He was really friendly, very happy in his job and with a great sense of humour. It was only for him we left a good tip, and if it wasnt for him, we wouldnt have. Maybe the young girl would be better suited uploading to Insta or Tik Tok instead of this.
