5 /5 Daniel Baxter: A fantastic experience, and I mean experience in the simple sense that it is more than just good food. Dining at the newly reopened Simpsons has a real sense of occasion. From the moment you walk in, you notice the history of the place, the high ceilings, and the buzz in the room, especially as the doors open into the Grand Divan Room.
The food is exactly what you want from Simpsons: classic British cooking done properly. It would have been hard not to go for the beef trolley, and it lived up to expectations. The beef was carved beautifully, the roast potatoes were crisp and golden, and the vegetables were cooked with care. It is traditional, but feels special.
For pudding, the lemon posset was spot on, light, sharp, and nicely balanced. The spotted dick was also excellent, served warm with delicate custard that did not feel heavy or overly sweet.
The Pear Ricky cocktail was a highlight too: crisp, refreshing, and well-made.
Overall, the quality was consistent. The service was attentive and professional without being overbearing, and it made the whole evening feel relaxed and enjoyable.
Very happy to say: Simpsons is open again, and it is well worth a visit.
