5 /5 Harry Goldsmith: Visited The Sussex Ox recently and it was a great experience. The setting is beautiful, especially with the views over the South Downs perfect spot for a relaxed meal. The food was excellent, really fresh and well presented, and the portions were generous. Service was friendly and welcoming without feeling over the top. A proper countryside pub with quality food and a great atmosphere. Would happily return.

5 /5 BettyLTD: Another amazing meal at The Sussex Ox. A rare date night for new parents, so we don’t want to waste time and money on a mediocre experience and it did not disappoint. A beautiful menu with some specials for Valentine’s Day. The service is organic and simple with the right amount of attention to the table. The food is beautifully presented, stunning quality and well thought out. I have some dietary restrictions and they have been very accommodating both times we have visited. It’s our go to now for a cosy but special feeling evening. Excited to try a roast on our next visit as we’ve heard great things.

2 /5 Gavin Cox: First off , lovely pub in a great setting. Proper old style english pub with log burners etc. Walked in and instantly felt warm and cosy, sat down and the menu was great, staff were nice, bit pricey compared to say Eastbourne area, but I thought this is ok the meal will be well worth it. Sadly it wasn’t , I ordered the lamb roast at £24. Turned up and the first thing I thought was, there’s going to be another bowl of veg brought out in a minute, then I realised my half a carrot and cabbage leaf was underneath. I had an addition of 3 what looked like aunt Bessie spuds, but by far the most disappointing thing was the lamb itself which was cut into thin slices and was at least 35%-40% fat. The cauliflower was a purée which just blending into the gravy and had no substance. Was such a shame , really wanted it to be nice. I hate going to a pub and spending £100+ for 2 adults and 2 children to leave hungry. Adding extra veg doesn’t cost the earth and it’s deserved when paying those prices. Drinks were also overpriced, pint of beer will set you back nearly £7. If you’re on a diet and have spare cash go here. Sadly won’t be coming back.

1 /5 Paul Barton: We reserved a table for 4 which ready as soon as we arrived, and it didnt take long to order our drinks or our meal. The atmosphere was great, lots of families having cosy Sunday roasts. We ordered 3 roast beef and 1 chicken roast dinner but were given 3 beefs and 1 chickpea roast. We were told by the waitress that the chicken wasnt on the menu, even though it was shown on the website and the menu we had just read when we ordered - Free-range chicken breast. We hadnt been told that all the chicken roasts had been ordered (it was only 1pm). I dont think the waitress was listening when we ordered. My partner is gluten-intolerant so they whipped the meal away and just took the Yorkshire pudding off - nothing extra was added and even then she had a stomach ache until the next day. The chickpea roast was so hard that it literally exploded when she tried to cut into it with her knife. Suggest wearing eye-protection due to the shrapnel that shot across the room. Unfortunately the waitress was pretty rude and robotic, no apologies for her error. To be fair, the roast beef meals were pretty good. Luckily we were in good company and the atmosphere was really friendly, but I probably wouldnt recommend the Sussex Ox. Our meal was £182 for 4 people - service was terrible.
