3 /5 Ella Sharp-Wilby: My partner and I visited for a Valentines meal and overall the food was nice, but in all honesty it wasn’t worth £60 per head. There wasn’t a huge amount of choice on the set menu, which was a little disappointing. This only includes the set starter/s which were a range of different foods, mains to choose from and then a set dessert, again, a mixture of 3 small desserts.
For our starter (no photos unfortunately, only photos of mains and desserts), we were served two sharing plates – one hot and one cold. The hot plate was lovely and full of flavour. The cold plate was also really nice… until I bit into something that definitely wasn’t meant to be there. It looked and felt like charcoal and just kept crumbling in my mouth. I informed the waiter straight away – he was lovely and said he’d check with the kitchen and let me know what had happened. However, we were never updated on what it was or how it ended up in the dish. Unfortunately, this resulted mainly with my star rating.
Aside from that issue, the rest of the meal was great and we did enjoy the flavours. The token gift with the bill was a good gesture however, I would recommend sticking to the normal menu rather than the set option for better value. We do wish to revisit without set menus.
