5 /5 Martin Cohen: OMG.....The locally sourced venison steak was unbelievable! Tender, juicy and unbelievably flavoursome, and a mousse desert to die for. That and the warm and friendly welcome from our server, Shannon who couldnt do enough for us gave us the meal highlight of our weekend away. Shame we live 2 hours away otherwise wed be back all the time. Remarkable value as well...great quality and quantity.

5 /5 Andy Hall: We never really post any reviews but felt compelled to send a review for this particular place and never got round to it until now. We are three food loving guys (best friends) from London who came across this establishment over one year ago when we were handed a lunchtime menu by one of their staff whilst walking through Hailsham High Street. Although we could not indulge in Callender’s lunch time offerings at that time we promised to return if ever we were passing through the area in the near future. Roll on a few months and we finally indulged in one of Callender’s lunch deals and we were not disappointed. The food proved to be excellent and beyond our expectations and we have returned to this establishment on numerous occasions to sample other dishes. Our favourite to date ( under two weeks ago) was the steak and kidney pudding which was cooked to perfection and gloriously filled with delicious meat but the liver, bacon and mash is almost just as delectable. We should also mention the delicious whitebait and soup but we could go on and on as all the food is so very good. Callenders is not your run-of-the-mill eatery that only wants to make a fast buck from undiscerning customers. It is clear from the quality of dishes on offer that Killian (chef and owner) is a creative, culinary expert who truly understands what makes great food and his pride and culinary adroitness is clearly reflected in the consistently superlative quality food that he daily serves up for his customers. The bonus in all of this is that the lunchtime deal represents excellent value for money and is almost too good to be true for the beautiful food that you can try across all menu options. Killian is a true master chef with an intimate and comprehensive knowledge of what it takes to make exceptional food and we wish that we had come across his restaurant much sooner. Lastly a mention must be made of the very attentive and professional staff in this restaurant. They really do everything that they can to make your visit as welcome, warm and enjoyable as possible. We cannot praise nor recommend this restaurant enough but please don’t take our word for it. Make a booking and treat yourself as we are certain that you’ll experience exactly what we have indicated in our review. It won’t be long before our next return trip. Bon appetit !!!!!!!!

5 /5 Wayne Towers: Lived in hailsham for about 6 years, always knew it was there. Heard good things about it but never read reviews. What can I say.... WOW amazing food, ive eaten at alot of restaurants and this place blew my mind. The chef killian was so polite and gave us exactly what we wanted, let us taste the wine, gave me a taster of the IPA they have. The bruschetta was the best ive ever had and the steak was cooked to perfection. The service was also amazing. Thank you very much and we will definitely be back

4 /5 Peter Russell: A very traditional restaurant with a quite elderly clientele. Lots of returning customers so obviously popular. We were there for Sunday lunch which was very good value and served piping hot. Good range on the menu. The venue lacked atmosphere but it was a lunchtime.

5 /5 Matt: We had the pleasure of dining at Callenders Restaurant on a Wednesday evening, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a friendly smile. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The food was perfect. Each dish was fresh, cooked to perfection, and bursting with flavor. And the chips were amazing! The best Ive had in any restaurant. Its clear that quality ingredients and expert preparation are a priority here and I havent come across another restaurant locally that matches the quality that is served here. We were particularly impressed with how accommodating the restaurant was for our 11-month-old son. They provided a high chair and even prepared a mini portion of fries and some ice cream specifically for him under good will. This thoughtful gesture made our evening even more special. From start to finish, everything was perfect. We left very happy and will absolutely be returning. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening; I will be recommending to everyone I know!
