5 /5 Jonathan Harrison: At last, a restaurant that still understands proper service.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by courteous, professional staff who took our coats and hats and invited us to enjoy pre-dinner drinks in the bar. It felt relaxed and unhurried, and set exactly the right tone for the evening.
The dining room was beautifully presented, with generous space between tables so you could actually have a private conversation. Refreshingly, there were no bench seats, which meant staff could serve properly from behind without squeezing past or reaching across diners.
Our waiter was polite, knowledgeable and very helpful with both food and wine choices. The menu was well balanced, the wine list excellent, and the food itself was perfectly cooked and nicely presented — with a proper portion of vegetables too.
For three of us, with only one person drinking spirits, the bill came to just under ÂŁ300. Not cheap, but the quality of the service and the overall experience made it feel worthwhile.
A rare example of proper, old-fashioned hospitality. We’ll definitely be back.
