5 /5 X Y: Exquisite extravagant experience! This was my first time trying Omakase and overall it didnt disappoint as delivered by Team Juno. The intimacy of the space (max 6 guests; our sitting was 5) means youre right there to see everything unfold like theatre and chat with the chefs as they work. The food was spectacular, with extraordinary variety and quality of ingredients (from Hokkaido, South Korea, Italy, Iceland, Hawaiian volcanic salt... sorry Planet Earth for the food miles!) complemented by their combination into sumptuous, adventurous dishes Japanese in concept with Mexican twists. Snow crab. Wagyu beef. Caviar. Its like an encyclopedia of decadent treats, but all get the reverence they deserve.
The service was impeccable during food service, with only a couple of minor gripes around the edges - we were promised a table back in the bar after dining, but on arrival were forced onto bar stools where we were regularly drowned up by enthusiastic cocktail mixing. And one of our fellow diners was encouraged/ permitted to drink an awful lot (he said 3 bottles of sake before and during the sitting...), resulting in proximity to loud and slurred speech that took the edge off the premium romantic experience a little. Also be advised Its relatively quick: 12 courses come and go pretty quickly (most 1-3 bites) and with all the narrative and presentation, if your plan is a catch-up with your dining companion/s budget time for this before or after rather than during.
Its a splurge for a very special occasion. And overall it delivers - youll definitely remember it and talk about it for a while afterwards. Thanks team Juno!
