2 /5 karen finn: When we arrived, despite having a (birthday) booking, the waitress acted like we were walk-ins & as if she couldn’t find a table for us even though the restaurant was almost empty. She asked us how many people were in our party which was perplexing as we had a booking, then proceeded to seat us at the worst table directly near the front door where there was a draught. When we asked if we could have a table further inside, she said no, but finally agreed to seat us near the window. The food was good, but the service was very slow. The waiting staff seemed to forget about us once we got our food - no checking if all was good or if we needed more drinks, and we had to ask them to come clear the empty dishes & bottles. The waitress who finally cleared the plates held her hand out & gestured for us to pass her a couple of plates that were a bit farther away. We were given the dessert menu but once again were forgotten about so we had to call the waitress over to take our dessert order. I ordered a ginger & lemon tea which I assumed would be a tea bag, but which was a few slices of lemon & a couple of small slivers of ginger… it basically tasted like plain hot water, so we asked if it could kindly be taken off the bill (£3.95) as I didnt drink it. The manager came over & started to argue with us that this is how they make the tea and she wouldn’t be taking it off the bill. We said we weren’t going to pay for what was essentially a pot of hot water so she begrudgingly took it off the bill. We had asked nicely and explained we thought it was going to be a tea bag. Her attitude was extremely rude, unapologetic and combative. It’s a shame because we like the food there, but we will never go back because of that one manager. It also spoiled my birthday. *UPDATE in response to your response: 1. I did NOT consume the tea. I had one sip. 2. You were NOT polite or apologetic. You were defensive. 3. The menu just says ‘tea’. It does not say ‘fresh’ ginger & lemon.
