5 /5 Ovidiu Burduja: I recently visited Original Souvlaki at Market Place in Harrow-on-the-Hill, and I must say, it was a delightful experience that brought a taste of Greece to northwest London. Tucked inside the vibrant Market Place Food Hall on St Ann’s Road, this gem offers authentic Greek cuisine that’s both hearty and bursting with flavour.
I opted for the chicken gyros wrap, which came generously stuffed with tender, well-marinated meat, fresh tomatoes, onions, and a sprinkle of paprika, all wrapped in their signature handmade Greek pita bread. The Original Souvlaki sauce—a blend of mustard, honey, mayo, and a secret ingredient—was an absolute game-changer, adding a creamy, tangy kick that elevated the dish. The portion was substantial, and the accompanying fries were perfectly crispy with a dusting of oregano. I also tried the Greek salad, which was fresh, vibrant, and topped with a generous slab of authentic feta cheese.
The atmosphere at Market Place is lively yet relaxed, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family. The staff at Original Souvlaki were friendly and attentive, ensuring my order was spot-on, even accommodating a small request to tweak the sauce. It’s clear they take pride in using high-quality ingredients, many sourced directly from Greece, which shines through in the authenticity of the flavours.
My only slight critique would be that the seating in the food hall can get a bit busy during peak times, but that’s a minor quibble given the quality of the food. At around £10 for a wrap with fries, it’s excellent value for money, especially considering the portion sizes. I’ll definitely be back to try the halloumi wrap and perhaps some dolmades next time. If you’re in Harrow-on-the-Hill and craving a proper Greek souvlaki, Original Souvlaki is the place to visit.
