5 /5 Michael Scott: A gastronomic revelation
Each time Ive visited Pappa Ciccia, I have received the warmest of welcomes and, when I went there with a friend a week before Christmas, this time was no exception. The service was excellent and the chef - a young Sicilian - even came to our table and recommended a dish that was new to me: seafood fregola. He told us this is a traditional Sardinian dish - like a soup, he said - with small granules of pasta. Although I have always enjoyed Pappa Ciccias pizzas, I am so glad that I was tempted to try the seafood fregola on this occasion. What a revelation it was! The golden broth was full of mussels, clams, shrimp, and even octopus tentacles - all cooked to perfection and utterly delicious. The broth was bursting with flavour - perfect for dipping lightly browned pieces of bread. The pasta formed a luscious seabed at the bottom of the dish.
If the seafood fregola is on the menu when you visit Pappa Ciccia I strongly recommend you try it. I finished the meal with the most amazing tiramisu - and the most generous serving! Small wonder, then, that Pappa Ciccia is a firm favourite. Thank you for another memorable evening.
