1 /5 Gregory Brown: Worst café I have ever been to. The atmosphere was horrible and from the moment we walked in we felt like an inconvenience, as if we should just leave. We were ignored, then waved at to sit down, and when the waitress eventually came over she refused to make eye contact, scribbled our order down without a word, and walked off. The only eye contact we did get were odd death stares from her behind the counter, or strange looks from the owner and chef sitting down watching us, which made us feel even more uncomfortable. Meanwhile the owner and cook sat laughing loudly about how their wives are stuck at home cleaning until everything is spotless, which was just disgusting to listen to. (See the photo of the owner, chef and waitress all sat talking)
When the food arrived, it was slapped onto the table without a word, almost on top of my hand, and the waitress never returned to check on us. The set breakfast looked poor and tasted worse. My partner had the egg and the bubble and squeak. Both were awful. The egg tasted off with something burnt stuck underneath, and the bubble and squeak was just greasy fried mash that was barely edible. We did not finish our food. When we arrived at the tills we noticed the griddle was black and filthy which may explain the aftertaste of the meal. To make it worse, the teas that were meant to come with the meal never arrived, but we were still charged full price.
What made it even more uncomfortable was how differently we were treated compared to the other customers. I am white and my partner is black, and it was impossible not to notice that we were treated far worse than the white customers.
Avoid this place completely.
