1 /5 Protima Deb: I do not write reviews lightly, but what happened here cannot be ignored.
We visited as a family, the restaurant was empty except for us, speaks volumes for a weekend evening. From the outset, standards were poor: a broken chair, flat Coke, extremely limited drinks options, average food that was overpriced, and a visibly unclean environment with grease on tableware and walls. The overall atmosphere felt dated and neglected.
However, the real issue was far more serious.
While we were eating, the waiter and a friend sat nearby watching us and making comments in Bengali, assuming I would not understand. I am Bengali. I understood every word. They referred to me using slang and openly discussed how an Asian woman like me could be dining with a white man. The comments were racist, misogynistic, and deeply offensive.
When I confronted them in Bengali, they were shocked, but not genuinely remorseful. The “apology” offered was clearly because they had been caught, not because they recognised how unacceptable their behaviour was.
To add insult to injury, I later discovered I had been overcharged on the bill due to incorrect maths.
Average food can be forgiven. Racism cannot.
I am proud to be a British Asian and proud of the diversity that makes the UK what it is. This restaurant does not reflect those values in any way. I will not return, and I would strongly urge others to think carefully before supporting a business that tolerates this kind of behaviour.
