4 /5 MelodeeS: A beautiful refresh of a familiar space. It’s very cool to see how the venue has been updated, with clever use of the layout to create several different dining rooms. Each space feels intimate and private, even though the overall layout initially feels is a bit of a maze. The addition of the grocer shop is a fantastic touch and works brilliantly with the concept.
The staff clearly share the same excitement we felt about the changes, and that enthusiasm was infectious. The lady who served us was excellent, recommending both wines and dishes according to what we were looking for.
We started with the mushroom arancini, which had the perfect amount of bite. It was lightly flavoured and sat on a sauce that complemented it nicely.
For mains, I chose the fettuccine nduja, which I were told is a very popular dish. The pasta itself was cooked beautifully, and the lift of lemon came through. However, I did find that the mascarpone gave the sauce a slightly grainy texture, which took away from it a little.
We finished with the chocolate nemesis dessert, which was more like a sturdy mousse. It was rich and indulgent, served with cream, though together they made it quite a heavy ending to the meal.
Overall, the food was enjoyable and the atmosphere and bubbly, engaging staff really stood out. A lovely place with lots of character, and one I’d return to.
