1 /5 Jenny Birt: Went to a group function here last night, they were pre told i was gluten free, which the chef was apparently quite rude about having to cater for. I was then informed (via the lady who booked the function) that there wasnt any suitable starters, everyone else was having roast, but i was going to have mushroom pie, and my pudding was a vegan brownie. Im 17 weeks pregnant and coeliac so being gluten free is so important especially now as eating it now will not only harm me, but my unborn child.
Upon arriving, the waitresses had no clue and kept trying to give me the starters. I spoke to a lovely chap as he asked if we were missing a starter as i didnt have one, so i informed him i was GF. He then checked and he could sort the prawns out for me to be GF but unfortunately i cant stand prawns so i politely declined. Mains started coming out and again the waitresses kept trying to give me a roast, which again we kept saying no, we need GF. Again the chap sorted it and brought my pie out, which unfortunately was vile. Was just a tastless stodgy mess inside a rock hard shell, so all i had was 3 tiny roast potatoes and some of the veg that was put on the tables.
Pudding came, and again, had to keep giving back puddings and asking for the GF. Was handed the vegan brownies, which i had to check was definitely GF as vegan and Gf are completely different things. The lovely chap checked and it was infact safe, these thankfully were delicious.
Overall not great, service was rushed, sloppy and uncoordinated. The waitresss were quite rude and abrupt whenever we handed things back. The chap however was very friendly and helpful!
