5 /5 IAN GEORGE COWAN: I recently visited The New Fairlop Oak in Barkingside, and it was exactly what you’d expect from a good Wetherspoon pub: spacious, affordable, and reliable. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming, with plenty of seating both inside and outside.
The staff were friendly and efficient, even during busy hours, which made the experience smooth. Food arrived quickly and was well‑prepared — classic pub dishes like fish & chips and burgers, served hot and generous in portion. The drinks selection was extensive, with a wide range of beers, ciders, and spirits at very reasonable prices.
What stood out most was the value for money. For central Barkingside, the prices are hard to beat, and the quality is consistent. It’s not a fine‑dining destination, but it doesn’t try to be — instead, it delivers exactly what you want from a Wetherspoon: good food, affordable drinks, and a relaxed setting.
Overall, The New Fairlop Oak is a dependable local pub — perfect for casual meals, meeting friends, or enjoying a pint without breaking the bank.
