Rehan Siddiqui On Friday 23rd January, we went for dinner at C&O Turkish Restaurant just off Peascod Street in Windsor. I had already called ahead to ensure all of the meat served was halal including the steaks!
It was fairly quiet around 8:30pm, with only a couple of tables occupied, but we were attended to immediately. Drinks and starters were taken straight away and we opted for a simple hummus to begin.
For mains, I had a beautiful lamb kleftiko – a lamb shank served with vegetables and mashed potato in a herby tomato sauce – and it was genuinely one of the best I’ve had. My wife chose the lamb adana kebab, and my daughter had the chicken wings. Everyone agreed the food was really good and clearly cooked with care.
You could tell the team were making a real effort with service. The only slight distraction was a customer at the table in front repeatedly complaining about chewing gum under her table – one of those things better handled discreetly (by the customer), as not everyone needs to hear it.
We had the pleasure of meeting the lovely owner, Jihan, who came over to chat with us. When I asked for mint sauce with my lamb shank, Jihan actually sent someone to a local shop to get some – that, for me, is outstanding customer service. To finish, my wife and daughter were offered complimentary Turkish tea and a fruit tea, which was a really nice touch.
This is a wonderful addition to the two other Turkish restaurants already in Windsor, but I’d say the food here was better – which means we’ll definitely be back.
