5 /5 Ronin Samurai 47: If you had told me that my favourite Japanese meal in London wouldn’t be the £400 dinner for two at a high-end, central spot, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. But after seven years of eating at **Yokoso**, I can confidently say nothing has ever matched it.
Tucked away in High Barnet, this place is a true hidden gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed like family. The owners are some of the most honest, warm, and genuinely friendly people you’ll meet. There’s no pretence, no gimmicks — just authentic Japanese food made with care and consistency.
And the food… I honestly struggle to describe how delicious everything is. Over the years, I’ve tried pretty much the entire menu, and not a single dish has disappointed me. Every plate tastes fresh, balanced, and full of flavour — the kind of food that keeps you thinking about it days later.
My absolute favourites? The **unagi don** is out of this world — perfectly grilled eel, rich and tender, coated in that sweet, savoury sauce over fluffy rice. The **dragon roll** is beautifully made, packed with flavour and always incredibly fresh. The **salted edamame** may sound simple, but it’s done perfectly every time. And the **torikara** (Japanese fried chicken) is crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside — easily one of the best I’ve ever had.
What makes Yokoso special isn’t just the food — it’s the consistency. For seven years, the quality has never dropped. In a city like London, that says everything.
If you’re looking for authentic Japanese cuisine without the inflated prices and flashy presentation, Yokoso in High Barnet is the place. For me, it’s not just the best Japanese restaurant I’ve had in London — it’s one of the best meals I’ve had anywhere.
