2 /5 Andy Watts: The food wasn’t bad but… the service, as other reviews have mentioned, was abysmal.
We visited at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. Upstairs was closed and downstairs was half empty, probably about 6 tables had people sat at them.
* The only waitress working took the best part of 10 minutes to seat us at a table. I have no idea what she was doing as she wandered leisurely around the restaurant.
* When I say she “sat us at the table”, I mean after the 10 minute wait she pointed at the table and walked off.
* we ordered one pint of beer and one Diet Coke. The beer tasted flat and watery, the Diet Coke took another inexplicable 10 minutes to arrive.
* when the food came, the waitress whispered to us what the dishes were and wandered off. As the meat comes raw and you cook it yourself at the table, a few hints and tips on the best way to cook the meat would have been appreciated.
* there was nobody sat at the table next to us but it was covered in the dirty dishes of the previous people who had eaten there - the dirty table was left uncleared for the duration of most of our meal.
* at no point did the waitress come to our table or any of the other tables to ask if the food was ok or if we wanted anything else such as more drinks.
* there were two other guys working there who we saw a few times but I have no idea what they were doing, it certainly wasn’t helping the waitress.
* we asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill, which it was, but there was absolutely zero questioning as to why, it was almost as if it happens all the time and so was expected and not to be queried.
* the floor along the corridor and into the toilets was the stickiest floor I’ve ever known, it was disgusting.
The concept of the restaurant is great, but the execution is laughable. I have no idea how this has become a chain of restaurants when the basics are performed so badly. You couldn’t pay me to return. The highlight of the meal was the robot waiter which carried the plates to the table and was by far and away the hardest working employee in the building.
