5 /5 Piotr Czajka: If you’re in Milton Keynes — make sure you check out the Milton Keynes Rose. It’s located in Campbell Park, a short walk from the city centre, and it’s free and open to all. You can stroll there easily, follow the park paths from central MK, or arrive by bike or car — the park’s well-connected and easy to reach.
The Rose is a beautiful circular installation created in 2013 by artist Gordon Young (with help from landscape architects). It consists of 106 granite pillars of different heights, arranged in a ring inspired by the mathematical geometry of a flower. Several pillars are engraved with dates that mark events important to the community — from the foundation of Milton Keynes to significant civic, cultural or historical milestones.
More than just a sculpture, the Milton Keynes Rose works as a symbolic “living calendar” — a place where locals and visitors alike can come to celebrate, remember or reflect quietly. It hosts community events, commemorations and personal tributes throughout the year.
On a sunny afternoon, walking through the Rose with the pillars casting long shadows, surrounded by the green calm of Campbell Park — it feels like a quiet, meaningful little oasis in the heart of the city. Highly recommend for anyone passing by MK.
