1 /5 Adam Urmann: I visited 34 Mayfair for the Valentine’s Day set menu and unfortunately the experience was disappointing from start to finish.
According to the OpenTable description, the meal was meant to begin with an amuse-bouche, but this was never served and no explanation was given. We had also clearly informed staff in advance that we don’t drink alcohol. Despite this, alcoholic drinks were still brought to the table. When I refused them, a manager later came over to ask why, and I explained again that we don’t drink alcohol. He then asked if I wanted something else from the cocktail menu, which felt odd — at that point it would have made more sense to suggest a mocktail or non-alcoholic alternative.
The set menu was advertised as providing each course per guest, yet the dessert and even the box of chocolates were shared between two people, which didn’t match what was described or expected for the price.
Service became more confusing later on when a waiter told me I needed to order dessert from the à la carte menu before 10pm and mentioned something about serving outside, despite us already being on the set menu. When I asked whether dessert was included in the set menu, he replied rather rudely, “It does,” and walked away.
Finally, the price advertised for the set menu on open table said “taxes and fees” were included, yet we were still charged additional service and cover fees on the bill.
Overall, the experience felt disorganised, inconsistent with what was advertised, and not reflective of the standard you would expect at this price point. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend it.
