5 /5 Just Generic: Quite nice food, went here with my wife who was recommended the place by some of her friends. It’s a northeastern Chinese restaurant and certain their Northeastern cuisine was the best.
I’ve had the good fortune to work and live in China over the years (not just in Shanghai or Beijing like most).
Having said that we paid £80 including the service charge. Got sweet & sour pork (£12.80) lamb skewers (£3.60 each), crystal noodles with mixed veg (£13.80), Xinjiang sauté spicy chicken (£15.80), Dumplings (£16.80), some tea and beer, they also gave us a free dish of spicy lamb bones and watermelon.
If I were to rank them between my English tastes and my wife’s native mainland tastes. The three dishes we’d get again are the sweet & sour/lamb bone and crystal noodle veg and lamb skewers they all tasted very good, very northern (especially the skewers with beer). The melon was also quite refreshing.
The Xinjiang dish had flavour but couldn’t match native Xinjiang restaurants, the dumplings were also nice but couldn’t compare to dumpling houses.
On the balance it’s a good restaurant. Not outrageously good at everything like some claim but the dishes are good and some exceptional. It’s surprising other Chinese restaurants see more footfall from English, as I think my fellows would like the food there and the price.
The portion sizes are big (which matches the northeastern reputation for big portions and low prices). We ended up taking every dish back in Tupperware as we got too much food hahaha.
I hope the restaurant continues to prosper, continues to provide good food and good prices with good quality. As long as it does we will be sure to pop in for a meal when we are in Greenwich.
