4 /5 Bexsi: Came here for a family meal, as highly recommended, very very busy, attentive staff who were very accommodating, clean establishment, food i ordered i didnt enjoy ( dumplings) not to my personal taste, but the rest of my family throughly enjoyed
4 /5 Monique Traveller: It was a wonderful experience. Visited this restaurant for lunch and it was pretty quote at that time. Clean, spacious and great ambience. We were able to sot outside and weather was lovely. What we ordered was very delicious and eye pleasing. Would recommend it and go there again. Thanks Gurkha Village team
5 /5 Andy Alford: From someone who eats out quite a bit, I can honestly say that this was the best curry that Ive had in a long time - possibly ever!
I had the chicken lababda, which was just amazing- the flavourings and spices were unlike anything Ive ever tasted before. My son had the chicken korma, which was also delicious. Rice was plump and tasty and the nan bread (plain) was not at all greasy or too oversized. For desert we had gulab jamun, which was also good.
This restaurant holds a 5 star food hygiene rating from 23 May 2023.
Will definitely be back next time we come to Oxford - well done!
2 /5 Don Baker: My feedback is always about what is good. And what can improve.
The main point here is that I stayed with family this weekend. They know Gurka Village.
They tell me that something has changed there.
The tandoori chicken with mint sauce was less good than it normally is.
And no mint sauce was provided! Difficult to enjoy when the chicken that was served was very dry and stringy. More so than the regular orders in the past. And one expects food from the tandoor to have dry character. This was too dry and stringy.
I am also advised that the dish Chau Chau Chicken had significantly low flavour. But that only compared to the same dish ordered here many times over many years.
My Chicken Madras however was superb. Stunning flavour and good heat.
Overall. A definite opportunity to improve and grow back to previous best in Kidlington standard again.
In the opinion of my hosts. Pricing was very high. With 5 dishes coming to £48 for just 3 people.
Inner city prices being significantly lower.
Time to make a new plan to improve.
We look forward to seeing it and enjoying the high standard of the past.
3 /5 Layla Mason: We had a pleasant experience at Gurka Village thanks to the warm and welcoming staff who were genuinely friendly and accommodating. When we asked to be moved to a different table, they happily rearranged things for us without any fuss. Unfortunately, the evening was marred by a couple of disappointing issues: a full glass of wine was accidentally spilled over me and my coat (which was unfortunate, though the staff were apologetic), and the chicken in all seven of our dishes was noticeably dry and overcooked. While the service was a highlight, the food quality didn’t quite meet expectations this time.
Angela P Another great takeaway delivered to our door in great time all piping food great value for money too delicious large portions highly recommend!
sonia maulson Amazing Indian food in a proper pub. We had an amazing meal. Employees/owner are so attentive its unreal. Kind, caring, polite just brilliant. You must visit!!
syed shajan They also have Indian groceries store at very competitive pricing. All the products are of high quality and wide range of collections. Highly recommend place for all your Indian and Asian condiments and ingredients.
Keith Price OK food, but forgot to include everything that was on the menu.
The service appalling!!! Walked to the bar and the barman just walked off, went away and came back 5 minutes later and the barman too busy texting on his phone to serve me. When i asked for the bill i was given the tap machine which i refused to tap tip, once paid i was given the bill with a service charge added !!!.
Music too loud and after asking for it to be turned down, nothing done!!
mooring right outside but we found a much better pub down the road after this experience.
My advice give it a miss unless your desperate.
Kim Bourlet Went to the Jolly Boatman for a post hen do lunch for 16 of us and we couldnt fault it. Big car park and lots of space to sit, the food was great and we even had our own room so we didnt disturb other customers. The staff were friendly, attentive and flexible. Would definitely return and will be recommending to people I know in the area! Thank you to Sam and the rest of the staff.
Colette Raw We have just had a lovely lunch at the Red Lion. I am gluten and dairy intolerant and they were very attentive to ensuring that my meal would be ok. We even managed to come up with a dessert I could have ( the only negative thing I can say is that none of the desserts on the menu were suitable) but I introduced them to an "Eton tidy" -(Eton mess without the ice cream or cream), so I even had a dessert. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely eat there again. Thank you all.
