4 /5 jeff benjamin: On completion in 1966 dismissed as “London’s pop-art skyscraper”, *
Grade II Listed since 1995, reviled and feted in equal measure as a Brutalist landmark; always controversial and if not in the public’s mind, certainly always in its face.
Now repurposed as mostly luxurious residential apartments and integrated with the anticipated large new pedestrianised piazza and Crossrail travel hub.
REVISITED-5 Years later.
Despite all the promotional hoopla, at this time, a mediocre and unmemorable redevelopment that hardly measures up to the hype and expectations.
Set to retain prominence as the nub of this precinct well into the 21st.Century.
London’s ‘high-rise’ precursor and skyline icon.
