Now repurposed as mostly luxurious residential apartments and integrated with the anticipated large new pedestrianised piazza and Crossrail travel hub. REVISITED-5 Years later. Despite all the promotional hoopla, at this time, a mediocre and unmemorable redevelopment that hardly measures up to the hype and expectations. Set to retain prominence as the nub of this precinct well into the 21st.Century. London’s ‘high-rise’ precursor and skyline icon. * Erno Goldfinger

Honorable mentions for its arrogant, unforgettably forgettable architecture, its fundamental, carbuncular uselessness, and of course its consistent emptiness, both actually and spiritually.

5 /5 William W: This is one of the brutalist landmarks in the Big Smog, loathed and feted in equal measure. Personally, there is a timeless elegance in the articulated modular concrete facade. It’s a shame the building is turned into another high end residential tower.
