4 /5 Orca: A rare gem on the isle of wight, yes its expensive, BUT...
This chinese is currently the only one on the entire island, open until 11pm which has been a huge benefit to me on multiple occasions working late. Offering both indoor dining in a somewhat close proximity to the ocean and right next to the buss and train and ferry station, and takeaway service, theyve not fallen victim to covid made greed with only serving takeaways. The price however is on the highest point ive seen accross the island. £10 for a portion of ribs and £10.80 for some crispy shredded beef, once again prices have been raised, with absolutely no change to portion sizes, quality, or taste. The taste of their food however is actually REALLY flavourful. Unlike other resturants on the island that just taste sweet and full of msg, hong kong express actually does something seemingly unique with their food so if you order something bbq flavoured as an example, it actually tasted bbq flavoured. Ill hazard a guess its probably still got msg in like all chinese restaurants but theyre seemingly using actual sauces and flavours to bring out the good tastes, not relying on artificial sweeteners! I will note however whenever ive ordered the crispy shredded beef, theyve never actually been, well, crispy, but apart from that not had any issues. I cannot comment on any delivery aspects as not received that. The staff are lovely, the female can be hard to communicate with as shes not very good at speaking English at all, but the family that actually runs the shop are very friendly and amazingly well versed in customer service! Overall, really good place to eat from.
I would recommend to the owners to try and lower the prices, or switch over to a different supplier because paying £10 or more for a dish with hardly any meat in it at all is letting you down. When i can go to any shop and buy an entire joint of pork thatll feed me for a week for £10 and yet ill buy some ribs from you for the same price that have hardly any meat on it and will only just about feed me for one evening meal, either the shop is getting ripped off buy their catering company, or the customers are by the shop. If prices of the dishes were cheaper, id 100% be ordering both more, and more often.
