5 /5 Abbey Opadotun: I spent some time at North Acton Playing Fields recently, and it’s a classic, expansive community hub that feels like the "active lungs" of the Acton area. While Cathnor Park is your "secret garden," this is where you go when you need space to move.
The most striking thing about these fields is the sheer variety of sports on offer. On any given weekend, the place is a hive of activity with football matches, cricket in the summer, and people making use of the tennis courts. I was particularly impressed by the Pavilion; it’s a great facility that anchors the park, housing the Think & Do community space which often hosts local workshops and eco-projects, giving the park a bit more "soul" than your average playing field.
If you arent there for sports, the perimeter path is a fantastic loop for a run or a brisk walk. There are some lovely pockets of wilder planting and mature trees along the edges that provide a nice buffer from the surrounding residential streets and the nearby A40. The childrens playground is also a major draw—it’s large, fenced-in, and has a good range of equipment that keeps the younger ones busy for hours.
