5 /5 Matt Hobbs: Went for Sunday lunch at short notice today. Excellent service with nice cosy roaring open fire with relaxed country ambiance. Picture postcard quaint Sussex village setting. Good value Sunday roasts generously portioned with nice selection of sides. Recommended.
5 /5 MrsG: We had such a wonderful experience at The Bull. The food was absolutely delicious and every dish was full of flavour and clearly made with care.
The service was exceptional and the staff were so warm, welcoming and attentive which made the whole visit feel extra special (it was our first wedding anniversary too!).
Highly recommend if you want great food paired with genuinely lovely service. We will definitely be coming back :)
2 /5 Rob Foster: No welcome at the inn! During the Newick bonfire event on Nov 1st, we were asked to leave the bar area early, and had to stand outside in a chill drizzle. The beer prices were about ÂŁ7/pint, which is robbery!
We transferred to the nearby alternative pub, and were greeted properly with beer at normal prices.
5 /5 Kevin Russel: We recently enjoyed a lovely stay at this old inn. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and made us feel very welcome. We had a lovely evening meal (Barnsley Chop and Salmon). Perfect location not to far from bluebell railway. Would stay here again .
4 /5 Stewart Woodruff: We stayed at the Bull for three nights the service in the pub was really good and the food excellent however the room left alot to be desired the mattress needed changing, the shower head kept falling down and the TV position was silly. However it was just somewhere to sleep.
Carl Jeffrey The rural riverside setting is perfect for anyone who loves countryside walks or fancies hiring a rowing boat to explore the river. I was hiking solo on a multi-day trek from Brighton to Rochester when I came across the Anchor Inn. It was a warm early evening, and as I ordered a refreshing pint in the front bar, the landlord Simon (who had never met me before) immediately noticed my rucksack and said: “If you’re looking for somewhere to pitch your tent tonight, you’re very welcome to use the field behind the pub.”
It was such a generous offer that I gladly accepted. I spent the evening enjoying a few pints in the company of Simon and his staff, who made me feel completely at home. I didn’t eat during my stay, though the food looked excellent, but I can vouch for a superb pint of Harvey’s Best Bitter.
The following morning, as I was packing up at 8am, Simon even walked over with a cup of tea – an incredibly thoughtful gesture that summed up the hospitality I experienced here.
I truly can’t thank Simon and his team enough. The Anchor Inn is a brilliant riverside pub, and I’ll definitely be returning with friends. Highly recommended!
Ben Davies I arranged a private lunch for 20 guests and it couldn’t have gone better. From the first enquiry, the team were organised, responsive, and incredibly helpful with all the planning details.
On the day, the room looked lovely, the service ran smoothly, and the food was absolutely delicious fresh, seasonal, and great value. My guests were so impressed. A big thank you to the whole team, especially Meghan, for making it such a success.
Damey8679 Went for a few drinks in the bar area which was a lovely atmosphere, very cosy. Then we went and sat in the restaurant area for food. We know Cheffie from the Farmers, so knew the food would be amazing and he didnt disappoint. The pork belly with dauphinoise potatoes on the specials was incredible. Starters and desserts were delicious also. In addition the staff were so lovely and friendly and made us feel so welcome. Shout out to Lucy. Will definitely be going back soon.
Oliver Barnes The best Kombucha youll taste. Really creative and well flavoured products, I signed up to the monthly subscription after tasting. Lovely ethos behind the company too. Brilliant all round.
