Chaconia - (Near Lewisham, South East)

5 /5 Oliver Yung: Ever so often, one craves that hearty, honest meal and for me, that’s Chaconia, a Trinidadian restaurant at the heart of Deptford. The simple and clean store front veils the rich and exciting flavours that belie. I ordered the chicken curry and rice and was persuasively nudged by a fellow diner to try the goat curry instead; fortunately, the most generous proprietress indulged my gustatory fancies and offered me a small side of that. It was a plate of absolute joy - both curries had distinct flavours and the meats were perfectly stewed, retaining their structure while being succulent to the bite. The rice was well flavoured and was the perfect accompaniment to those rich curries. At £5, this was an absolute steal. I’ll be back.

1 /5 Makeda K: Google said this was open yesterday when I went there at 4pm. Got stuck in loads of traffic because of roadworks and paid to park just to get some food from here but it was closed. The venue looked derelict as well. Cant review the food as didnt get to try. Very disappointed. Response to other reviews seemed to refute the venue being closed when others said it was so thought I would give the benefit of the doubt. Wont be doing that again. Its a shame. *Update given the response. What a fiery response. I expect it is this that effects your business as opposed to honest reviews. Interestingly someone else had the same issue yesterday I do not appreciate the assumption that we were together, I dont know what gave you that idea. That would have been better as opposed to two wasted journeys! There was no live update and why should I have to check Instagram? Just accept your flaws and do better. What a shame youll get absolutely no recommendations from me and your business mindset, and performance is shocking. Such a shame when Caribbean restaurants usually get a bad reputation, its restaurants like yours that cause it when its certainly not always the case.

5 /5 Rachel Tran: Delicious goat curry and stew in roti! Hot pepper sauce is very hot - beware! The fried bake is defo a must eat. Everything was amazing and can’t wait to come back!

5 /5 Han Zheng: Very delicious food cooked by lovely owner herself. Good value. Only downside is that this is a takeaway place, so only very limited seating for eating there.

5 /5 guns21111: Una is such a nice lady! went in for a vege roti and had a lovely chat with her about life in london, and moving here from Trinidad. I would say dont go in expecting a chat as it can get really busy at times. Lovely rotis, and medium pepper was actually medium pepper. 5/5
