4 /5 Ben Slater: Lovely restaurant, and relatively good for Celiacs and Gluten Free people - but definitely £££. A lot of the menu has GF marked, and there is good variety of choices. The kitchen and staff are knowledgable (albeit it wasn’t a perfect experience for reasons I’ll note below).
The staff and kitchen are aware that cross contamination is a potential issue for Celiacs / Gluten allergy. They were able to confirm this pn the phone, left a note on our booking, and the service was attentive.
The food itself was fantastic, really tasty, and the drinks were genuinely awesome (try the Pisco sour!)
The only challenge in my experience was that while the staff seemed to know about kitchen contamination, this didn’t full extend to them understanding the issue when bringing out the food. We ordered 2 platters as a table of 6, and while there was one dish (of about 6 choices) per platter that was GF, no proactive thought went into bringing the GF option separately or checking if this might be an issue to bring everything together. As such I wasn’t comfortable eating the GF options in the platters, as I felt that there was a risk they had been CC’d between the kitchen and table due to close proximity to the other dishes. I was confident that the kitchen had made every effort to avoid CC in preparation, so it’s a shame about this final part. We ordered plenty of other great food which was all Gluten free - so on this point I can’t complain!
My advice would be to avoid ordering as a group and avoid ordering the platters if possible - probably sensible advice in general for any celiacs out there! I think then you’d be relatively safe from any risks of CC in the kitchen or elsewhere.
Otherwise great food, fantastic drinks, friendly staff, and a good atmosphere! Definitely recommend!
