5 /5 Shah Man Shah: Great place for authentic family kitchen Lahori food. In recent years this area has become saturated with all sorts of Lahori cuisine. So it doesnt really make sense to open yet another establishment in the area. However unlike other venues, Dhaba has a much simpler menu and is appealing to the normal working class budget. They have recently opened and their menu boasts a very inviting All You Can Eat selection available throughout the week and weekends - open to everyone, not just you students! When questioned how this was possible the waitress said it was a promo until the 15th Feb. However its possible this will become a popular lost leader long after that date has passed.
Food - 5 stars. The chicken biryani was a hefty portion including a chicken shami kebab, side onion salad and accompanying green yoghurt sauce. More than enough for the average person. However for those wanting to take advantage of the special offer, a refill is available upon request. This portion arrives half the size of the first plate and only includes the onion salad. Although I suspect theyre not stingy on the yoghurt sauce. The kehr was a really nice finish and not too sweet. The chai is made to order. I had to wait 10minutes for this but was well worth it. Wonderful way to finish my dining experience.
Service - 4 stars. The waitress was respectful, welcoming and helpful in explaining the menu and made time to engage my curiosity about the establishment. As mentioned the food arrived promptly. I dont give 5 stars because even though they are newly opened, the hand dryer in the only toilet wasnt functioning.
Atmosphere - 3 stars. Ample indoor seating available, especially for several groups at a time, including a baby chair. For Sunday lunchtime there werent many people in there. But when full I imagine it can be very noisy. For most of the time I was there they played Quranic verses on the big screen. This only appeals to the large Muslim community in the area. However it would be best to play something more inclusive for all and pleasing for dine-in socialising. Aside from that the kitchen staff were talking loudly to each other repeatedly front to back. Which added to the general noise coming from the food prep area, may affect those sensitive to noisy environments.
Overall a wonderful find in my local area. Not just another copy/paste of others. I doubt theyll be just another one hit wonder and am confident with their authentic flavours theyll quickly become established with enthusiastic regulars. Keep it up!
