Tayyabs - (Near Tower Hamlets, South East)

5 /5 Jose Jara-López: I’ve been here several times before because it’s one of my friend’s favourite restaurants, and since my brother was visiting, I wanted to bring him along. I had originally booked for 9:00 pm, but after walking for hours we arrived at 8:00 pm, thankfully, they were happy to seat us earlier with no issues. We were welcomed with papadum served alongside two sauces (one yogurt‑based and the other slightly spicier) plus some vegetables as starters. Tap water was readily available on the table. We ordered the mutton tikka, which I can’t recommend enough, the flavour and texture were fantastic. For mains, we had the Karahi king prawn and the aloo meat (potato and lamb) curry. Both dishes were delicious and very filling. We also had pilau rice and one of my favourite items on the menu: the Peshwari naan (coconut). Everything was excellent, the food arrived quickly, and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommended if you’re in Whitechapel.

5 /5 Frank Mansell: A great experience here. The atmosphere is lively, and it was completely packed. I would definitely book in advance - even this doesn’t guarantee you a table, it just pushes you to the front of the queue! The food itself was absolutely delicious - so flavoursome, and so much of it. The meat biryani (the house special on a Friday night) was unreal. The service was attentive and friendly, and the prices were fair, especially for London. I’d highly recommend this restaurant - thank you very much

5 /5 Matt ONeill: One of the best proper curry houses in London, with authentic flavours in a busy and popular environment. Bring your own booze, or don’t have any, there are soft drink options which accompany the meal nicely. The lamb chops and garlic naan are outstanding, and all the curry dishes are great. Sometimes a little wait if you don’t have a reservation but it’s easy to see why as it’s always packed, across 3 floors. At lunchtime it can be a bit quieter, eg Sunday afternoon. Is a great evening out with a group, the atmosphere is energetic and the food arrives quickly after ordering, and doesn’t disappoint. Fair prices, consistent quality and a fun visit.

5 /5 Shay Matters: Tayyabs never fails to impress. I tried the fish curry this time and it was honestly to die for—perfectly spiced and so fresh. It even comes with a complimentary salad which is a nice touch. Just a heads up: this place is a powerhouse. Even on a Tuesday at 4:00 PM, it was already buzzing and very busy, so plan accordingly. Highly recommend!

5 /5 Toby: One of my all-time favourite places for Punjabi food. I always go straight for the tandoori lamb chops. They arrive sizzling from the tandoor with deep char, spice, and incredible flavour. I love the dry lamb or mutton curry and the saag paneer alongside it, with a fresh garlic and coriander naan to mop everything up. The place is always buzzing. I like that you can see the kitchen working flat out and the food still comes quickly despite how busy it is. It’s only a few minutes walk from Aldgate East tube. There’s no alcohol licence, but they will put a bottle opener on the table and there’s a good selection of chilled beers a few doors down to bring with you. Big flavours, serious char, and the smell of spice in the air that happily follows me home.
