The Pack Saddle at Mapledurham - (Near Berkshire, South East)

5 /5 Carly Bownes: I visited this pub as I am staying in the area for work and didnt want to spend another evening sitting in the Airbnb. The staff were so accommodating and happy for me to work before my food arrived. The food was delicious, reasonably priced and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. I felt completely at ease despite being a solo diner. A big shout out to Megan who looked after me and gave fantastic service!

2 /5 sharon tanner: Used to eat here on a regular basis some years ago as had a good few GF options. They stopped having as many options so we stopped going. Thought I would go back and give it a try. Not the best initial greeting, and when I asked about GF options the waitress was not overly helpful or knowledgeable. Very disappointed with the brief menu and had to ask for a wine list and drinks. it took a couple of visits to the chef to get to the bottom of what I could have. Sadly our waitresses seemed a little grumpy and not very warm. Another guest was asking about the menu and sea food options and got up and left after his interaction. In comparison the Pack Horse, has much better options. That said the food was nice on arrival, just would have liked someone to have been more welcoming and helpful.

5 /5 Robert Beveridge: We had an excellent family meal in The Pack Saddle on Boxing day. Lovely tapas as starters and then mains (all freshly cooked) including beef ragu lasagne, pheasant pie and thai curry. Nice selection of beers and wines and attentive service. They clearly have a very good chef and this gastro pub is one to come back to. Highly recommended.

1 /5 Bev Hall: Visited this pub with high expectations. Lovely warm welcome by staff. Was disappointed with the limited menu options so opted for the steak and burger. There was only one other table of people so was surprised it took almost an hour for our food to arrive. When it did, the steak was very bloody and 50% fat and the chunky chips were hard in the middle. The burger was over cooked and very dry.we call the waitress who apologised and asked the chef to make more chips. By then my steak was cold. She fetched the manager and omg he was so rude! The chips he said he had tried earlier and were cooked to perfection, he said “each to their own I guess”. I’m not sure anyone would prefer part cooked chips! As for the steak he said “it’s rump, it’s supposed to be fatty”! When mentioning the burger, he said we should have sent it back to the kitchen. Not once did he apologise and made us feel we were just moaning. We said we wouldn’t pay full price. He disappeared to the kitchen for 10 mins leaving us waiting. He eventually came out and walked straight past us, we politely said excuse me twice, but he just ignored us. My partner followed him to the bar and they had words. He was rude, laughed at her with his mates sat in the bar area. She promptly paid half the bill and we left. While getting in the car he appeared at the kitchen door, waving and shouting bye bye! Unprofessional is an under statement. Will never return to this pub again
