1 /5 Rashid O: Cold, clinical, and devastating.
My visit to Wazobia in Hendon Central was so profoundly disappointing that a single star feels overly generous. My brother‑in‑law and I met two of his contemporaries there, ordered drinks, starters, and mains, and from that moment the evening deteriorated rapidly.
The drinks were the only part of the experience that arrived without issue. The starters, four seasoned snails, were delivered in two instalments, three first and the fourth later, as though the kitchen had misplaced it. My brother‑in‑law was served what appeared to be two halves of a snail posing as a whole one, which he understandably refused to eat.
The seasoning was aggressively, unnecessarily hot, so fiery that only someone with an asbestos‑lined tongue could tolerate it. One of our companions was sweating so heavily he looked physically distressed. I genuinely worried about the consequences for him later.
The mains were no better. They arrived at different times, and the quality was abysmal. The pounded yam came with an edikaikong so lifeless, bland, and uninspired that it felt like a parody of the dish. My own order, fried yam, beans, and fried fish, arrived as meat. When corrected, the replacement fish was so tough it could have doubled as industrial material. Chewing it felt like attempting to bite through rhino hide.
This was my first visit to Wazobia, and it will certainly be my last. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. If zero stars were an option, that would be far more accurate.
