Adrienne G A Toca had an extensive menu showcasing the vast Portuguese dishes. We were met with a friendly waiter and ordered a few dishes that all came out very filling. The seafood rice was rich in flavour, the umami from the mussels and prawns came through. What was a standout with this dish was the serving portion for the price point and the amount of seafood you actually get. The grilled octopus was nicely charred and cooked well, not too chewy. The pork and clams dish was an unexpected star of the dish. Not familiar with this combo, it surprisingly melded nicely together. It was seasoned well and the potatoes with the dish still had a nice crunch to it despite it soaking up the delicious sauce. Would come back here again!

Jose Jara-López I’ve been here several times before because it’s one of my friend’s favourite restaurants, and since my brother was visiting, I wanted to bring him along. I had originally booked for 9:00 pm, but after walking for hours we arrived at 8:00 pm, thankfully, they were happy to seat us earlier with no issues. We were welcomed with papadum served alongside two sauces (one yogurt‑based and the other slightly spicier) plus some vegetables as starters. Tap water was readily available on the table. We ordered the mutton tikka, which I can’t recommend enough, the flavour and texture were fantastic. For mains, we had the Karahi king prawn and the aloo meat (potato and lamb) curry. Both dishes were delicious and very filling. We also had pilau rice and one of my favourite items on the menu: the Peshwari naan (coconut). Everything was excellent, the food arrived quickly, and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommended if you’re in Whitechapel.

Wendy McCoubrie Came in for our News Years Eve meal. Had the best night ever. Food was amazing as always, service first class. Been coming for nearly 20 years now and have always made to feel welcome and part of the family. Our Number one and only Indian in Basingstoke.. 5 stars.

Tariq Salem I needed a place to celebrate my mom’s 75th birthday with around 25 guests. I spoke with Angela and she made this the easiest party I’ve ever had to plan. You can tell this is a family run business due to the care and love they put into the ambience and the food and the friendly atmosphere. Even with my shellfish allergy they made sure I was well taken care of. The food was delicious and with the extra help that Angela provided came out quickly. I recommend Matthew’s Kitchen 100% if I could have given 10 stars I would.

Guy Thompson Great little cafe on the town centre. Not a huge menu, but everything is perfect! Lovely attentive and friendly staff! Will be coming back!
