5 /5 Andrew Thomas: Historic medieval church, believed to be the oldest building in Harrow, occupying a site on which a church has existed since Saxon times.
The current building incorporates elements of a Norman tower, though its most distinctive feature, the spire, was added in the 16th century. Its a prominent local landmark, visible from miles around thanks to the churchs already elevated position on the hill.
Inside, the church features a notable Purbeck marble font, a collection of brasses dating back as far as the 14th century, stained glass windows depicting the history of the church, and a striking painted ceiling above the chancel.
Outside the church in a secluded place below trees is the tomb of four members of the Peachey family. This was the favourite spot of Lord Byron, poet and former pupil of Harrow School.
