Gill Great food in a fantastic location, with a varied menu and really good coffee. It’s dog-friendly and the atmosphere is lovely and changes depending on the time you visit. I’ve been at different times on both weekdays and weekends. During the week there’s a nice mix of parents with young kids, groups of adults, and people working quietly- there’s even a cosy, chilled space at the back that’s perfect for getting some work done. On weekends it’s much livelier and faster-paced, with families and friends meeting for breakfast and brunch. I also took a friend visiting from Australia and they absolutely loved it. The staff were friendly, the service was quick, and I’ll definitely be back.

Joanna I dont know much about Thai cuisine, but if thats the real flavours of Thailand I do want to explore more! The dishes were well balanced, full of flavour and seasoned to perfection. Each dish had a decent amount of meat, nicely done as well. Even if youre not fond of specific flavours, still give it a go, composition will blow your mind. Black lemon tea and pancakes were like a cherry on top. As per the restaurant itself, its very clean, comfortable and the staff is amazingly friendly. Well definitely be back soon!
the cooks tale restaurant

The Cooks Tale Restaurant - Kent

Rating: 4.8 /5
Jana Savulescu We visited The Cook’s Tale to celebrate our five-year anniversary, and as always, we left with an exceptional experience. Our stomachs full, our taste buds delighted, and our hearts happy. We ordered the saffron chicken plate and the lamb plate, beginning with fried sardines as a starter, which were fresh and absolutely delicious. Between our starters and main courses, we were treated to a selection of complimentary tasters, each showcasing beautiful flavours inspired by Indian cuisine, elevated with a refined and creative culinary twist. This restaurant is undoubtedly our go-to destination in Canterbury, especially for celebrating special occasions. What truly sets it apart, however, is the hospitality. Guests are welcomed with genuine warmth and care, and the service is consistently attentive, friendly, and professional. A restaurant that is worth every penny, and every moment, of your visit!

Mr Munch -

Andrew (Snowdog) In this day and age its quite difficult to get a very decent meal for less than ÂŁ10. I had a toasted sausage bap and a coke for ÂŁ7.50. Can I find anything to complain about? No! The bap was really nicely toasted, and buttered as well. Sausages were piping hot and cooked through and a medium coke is a fairly decent size compared to some bars. The staff are casual and not over the top, they speak to you like they see you every day, and its a relaxed approach like that, that keeps me coming back. Normally when I go to eat I dont want something special, I dont want to be upsold a product that I have no interest in and here thats all avoided by that one question: "anything else at all?" And as soon as a no is heard, they leave you to it, which is exactly what I want when I go somewhere to eat. Service was also really quick, from sitting down to receiving food it couldnt have been any more than 15 minutes which is absolutely brilliant. I urge more people to come to Mr Munch as its Basingstokes answer to an actual cafe, that ISNT a branded restaurant or coffee shop. One more big thing I want to point out is that you can get a breakfast plate ALL day. I dont always take that option but its nice to know its available. So if youre in Basingstoke give it a try, you wont leave disappointed.
