Sunset Fish Bar - (Near Kent, South East)

1 /5 N Smith: We were really disappointed with our visit to this fish and chip shop by the seaside. The food was overpriced, and the chips were terrible – they tasted like they’d been sitting around all day. We each had a portion, but after a few bites we ended up throwing most of them away. The only saving grace was the cod bites, cod, saveloy, and battered sausage – those tasted fine because they were freshly cooked. Service was slow too. I had to go and get my own drinks from the fridge, and they weren’t even offered to me – I had to ask if I should take them myself. Overall, it felt like a waste of money.

5 /5 Nicola Gardner: We enjoyed the best cod we have ever tasted, absolutely huge, the chips were amazing (in a mini basket so could have eaten more - but enough for most people). Beautifully presented with salad on a gold dish. They were not busy in October so the manager was able to chat & discuss the area, as we were on holiday. Highly recommend, opposite the pier so would imagine the outside seating in season would be lovely.

5 /5 Russ: I expected a typical overpriced, mediocre seaside fish and chips spot, but I was pleasantly surprised, especially as the summer season was winding down. This was hands-down the best fish and chips I’ve had in ages! The fish was thick, flaky, and perfectly white, encased in a light, golden batter. The chips were fresh, golden, and clearly fried in clean oil. I also tried the calamari, which was plump, tender, and just as delicious as the fish. While I may not return to Herne Bay anytime soon, I’d eagerly stop by again for another fantastic meal if I’m in the area! They don’t add service charge to the bill so bring a spare few coins to tip!

4 /5 Ken Hayward: Pleasant location right next to the beach, comfortable chairs and spacious tables. Attentive, good service. Food was average , warm diet coke and no ice, undercooked chips and over battered food. Reasonable value for money at about £10 per head for one course and a soft drink. Hard to recommend except that they did cook me a fillet of cod without the batter.
