4 /5 Elisha Tanya: Vermicelli is definitely a shining light in an area that is quickly becoming the food Mecca of South London. Nestled in the always busy Tooting Market you’ll find an Italian restaurant serving up wood fire pizza and an excellent selection of pasta dishes. Everything you love or crave from Italian cuisine, you’ll more than likely find it on their menu. Food is served fresh and it’s refreshing to see an open kitchen where you can see the work being done. The quality of food is high when compared to Italian restaurants at other food markets. The seating arrangement is confined yet intimate even with so much background noise and activity. On a busy Friday night, it was clear to see that Vermicelli is one of the most popular spots for a reason.
With all that being said, it was a great shame that the service was extremely poor. It took 10 minutes for us to get our food ordered and our cutlery came just as soon as the food was served. I understand being extremely busy on a Friday night but service is king. I was extremely disappointed with the lack of attention to the customer needs/requests. Once I our food was served I asked for two small plates so we could share each meal. It felt like an eternity before our waitress came with the plates and by the time she came, we already started sharing our food. Once again, the food is well worth the trip for quality and price point alone. However, the lack of consistency with service may refrain me from full enjoying what Vermicelli can offer.
