5 /5 The Travel Hacking Life: This was my first time visiting Damal. The interior was quite basic, but once we sat down it became clear that the focus was on the food rather than the setting. The service was good. The person serving us took time to guide us through the meal and brought out a variety of dishes for us to try, which made the experience feel relaxed and unhurried. We started with chai tea while everything was being prepared. The main dish was a shared platter of rice served with lamb, placed in the centre of the table. Alongside it, we were given several types of flatbread on one plate, which were used to eat the meal together. There was a lot of food overall, enough that we ended up taking some home afterwards. The sauces added a lot to the meal, especially the spicier ones, which had a strong kick without being overwhelming. They were good enough that I asked to take some with me. Overall, we really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was very relaxed and casual, I would definitely come back again

4 /5 Chiho Sharp: A party of 11 booked a table. We ordered starters and 2 sharing platters, which were massive! We could take left over home in containers. These grilled lamb and chicken were so tender, moist and delicious. The rice was flavourful. The restaurant opened less than one month when we went. It looked a bid disorganised and the service was really slow! We waited nearly 2 hours before the main came to our table, but it was worth waiting. The Somali tea was really nice. It’s great for a large group. Toilets however needed improving despite it was a new restaurant. There is a room with carpet and stools to sit on. It looked really nice and I suppose it’s for a special occasion. Happy to go back any time.

The food was flavorful, the portions were generous, and the service was warm and welcoming — everything you’d want in a great dining spot. We ordered one of their large mixed platters, which came with perfectly cooked rice, chicken, and meat. The presentation was beautiful — a big silver tray filled with fragrant spiced rice topped with tender roasted chicken, slow-cooked meat, and a mix of colorful vegetables. It looked amazing and tasted even better! The chicken was juicy, coated in a rich red sauce that had the perfect balance of spice and tang. Every bite was full of flavor without being overwhelming. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender — seasoned beautifully and cooked to perfection. Together, they paired perfectly with the rice, creating a combination that was both comforting and full of depth. The bariis iskukaris (Somali-style spiced rice) was just outstanding. Each grain was fluffy and aromatic, with hints of cardamom, cumin, and butter. You could really tell the rice was cooked with care. The vegetables on top added a nice freshness and slight sweetness that tied everything together beautifully. The portions were huge — definitely made for sharing, and great value for money. It’s the kind of meal that makes you feel satisfied and happy, like a proper home-cooked feast. The restaurant itself has a modern and relaxed vibe — clean marble tables, a cozy atmosphere, and friendly staff who make you feel welcome right away. The service was excellent; the team checked in on us often and offered great recommendations with a smile. Damal is a fantastic spot if you want to experience authentic Somali cuisine in London. The food is hearty, flavorful, and made with real care. You can taste the tradition and pride in every bite. Highly recommend this place — whether you’re trying Somali food for the first time or already love it, Damal will not disappoint. I’ll definitely be coming back for another platter soon!

1 /5 Marwa El-D: The food is delicious so I hosted a dinner and ordered two big platter meals costing quite a significant amount. They included one small box of salad - they usually give one per platter. They had given me half the chicken as if one platters worth of chicken was considered enough - I was really disappointed as I had guests. The flavor was great but I should have received what I paid for.

4 /5 Explore the adventures: Had no Idea kabsa or mandi can be available near Stepney green. Went for birthday party, we requested for a private room and after little wait we got that. Overall experience was very luxury like Soudi food was amazing.
