1 /5 ikram abdul: I never leave reviews, but the disrespect I experienced from the staff today was appalling. I’ve ordered egusi with beef from this place many times in the past, though the last couple times I’ve purchased the quality hasn’t been what it used to be. Still, I decided to give them one last chance.
After paying for my food and stepping outside, I checked my order and was shocked to see the container barely half-filled with egusi. I immediately went back inside to politely raise the issue, but instead of addressing it, the staff member argued with me, claiming “that’s how it’s always served.” That was simply untrue—I’ve ordered this many times before, and the portion has never been this small. All I asked for was a bit more soup, yet I was dismissed, ignored, and treated as if my concerns didn’t matter.
The situation quickly became uncomfortable. I was the only female customer in the shop (besides the two female staff members), and being forced to defend myself while others looked on felt intimidating. When I requested a refund since they refused to correct my order, I was met with more dismissiveness. At one point, the staff member even began insulting me in Yoruba—completely unprofessional and frankly humiliating.
Even other customers were trying to reason with the staff, encouraging them to add more or at least acknowledge the issue, but instead I was belittled and disrespected. Eventually, after much back and forth, they refunded me, but it was done in such a way that felt more like an intimidation tactic than an apology.
This entire ordeal was uncalled for. I truly wished I had taken pictures of the food. As a paying customer, I should not have been insulted, gaslighted, or made to feel unsafe simply for asking for the food I paid for. The level of disrespect I received today was disgraceful, and I will never be returning.
