Matt Salt We recently visited the Isle of Wight for what has become an annual family holiday — we love the island and always look forward to returning. While staying in Rookley, we were fortunate to be just a short distance from the Hare and Hounds, so we decided to book a meal there. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome. The barman who looked after us (I’m so sorry I didn’t catch his name) was friendly, attentive, and genuinely lovely. The food exceeded all expectations. Even our children, who can be quite particular, thoroughly enjoyed their meals — which says a lot! We were told there was a different chef on that evening as the regular chef was off, so a big thank you to whoever was in the kitchen that night — everything was fantastic. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the following evening for our final meal of the trip — and once again, it was outstanding. Despite different staff and a different chef, the experience was just as good. I had the best gammon I’ve ever tasted — absolutely superb. A special thank you to Paul Avery in the kitchen, and to the two lovely ladies who served us, including Pauline. You were all wonderful, and the food was delicious. We couldn’t fault a thing and will absolutely be returning on our next visit to the Isle of Wight.

Christine Frith We had a fabulous team night at The Fox. A super Cocktail Masterclass which was great fun and the cocktails were delicious. The downstairs bar is a perfect venue for a team night. Chloe, Olu and Fenella were fabulous at teaching us how to make a great cocktail and making it a fun event. We then went for dinner upstairs where I had the best pub Christmas dinner. Super tasty. Can highly recommend.

l br This was my third time visiting Sasha’s and it just keeps getting better! We came to celebrate my birthday and I brought a cake along, expecting the usual little moment with sparklers—which they did—but then they completely surprised me with a bottle of Prosecco (also with sparklers!) and it was totally on the house. Such a lovely and unexpected gesture! The kids absolutely loved their food, and I was especially impressed that my daughter actually went for something other than her usual nuggets and chips—progress! The atmosphere, the food, the hospitality… all just spot on. It was such a lovely experience from start to finish. Huge thanks to Sasha and the team for making my birthday feel extra special. Just to note I booked a table just over two hours before getting there as I really didn’t plan to go out! Can’t wait to come back again soon!

RR Skye Stopped in here for a late lunch. I got the reuben sandwich and iced latte (with vanilla) and it was really good! The staff were wonderful, and it was dog friendly as well, we did get it for takeaway. The sandwich was very good, would eat here again for lunch!

Liam Smith I always use reviews to gauge the metric from somewhere this place ticked all the boxes. Chinese place that does fish and chips? CHECK - THEY NEVER MESS THIS UP. Chinese place with a review from someone who is actually from China that calls it authentic? DOUBLE CHECK. Yep, needless to say, I shut my eyes and placed an order for 50 quids worth of food to try as much as possible with my Mum as I lived in Hong Kong years ago and there arent many places that are doing good Cantonese food (because in the UK we are very used to a specific taste with Chinese food so they all do the same thing regardless where they are from, even though most will say theyre from Peking). Absolutely phenomenal find. Xiexie!

Christine Matthias-Jones This is our local pub so we may be a tad biased…… but we always enjoy coming here! In the week it’s always quite quiet in the evening, with a decent 2 meals for £15 deal. It gets more lively at the weekend (or whenever there’s live sport on the tv!). It was re-decorated following the 2024 floods so the inside feels open, modern and nicely decorated. There’s a great selection of drinks - especially the beer on tap, and gin too. The Sunday roast it bargain for money - a big win with the family!!
