Sylvanus Restaurant - (Near , South East)

2 /5 Simon Day: The Elvetham is a beautiful hotel in lovely grounds. Visited the Sylvanus Restaurant today (28/12/25) for Festive Afternoon Tea which I had really been looking forward to. Sadly it was incredibly disappointing. To be perfectly honest, I dont think we were given the Festive Tea at all, just the cheaper standard one. The macaroons were plain, not Christmas trees which was the description in the menu. Some of the cakes were totally different, and one type was missing - until I queried it and they were found! Sandwiches also seemed different. Scones were stale and inedible. Asked for replacements, which were no different. Such a shame. Not as it was advertised at all.

5 /5 VP: The restaurant inside the mansion is a real gem. The dishes are delicious, beautifully presented, and served quickly—perfect for both relaxed meals and special occasions. For larger gatherings, I’d recommend making a reservation in advance. The team is very accommodating and will help organize everything smoothly, ensuring the experience feels effortless and enjoyable. What makes this place even more special is the setting: the restaurant is located in a charming winter greenhouse, inspired by the famous Crystal House. Dining here feels like stepping into a unique blend of history and elegance. There’s also a cozy bar where food is served, making it a great spot to unwind with a drink or enjoy a lighter bite. Altogether, it’s a must-visit part of the mansion experience.

5 /5 Lorcan Kelleher: I think the bad reviewers may have been looking for Buckingham palace. This place is excellent and extremely reasonable on frankly stunning hotel grounds. Staff were wonderful and service was extremely fast even though every table was filled. Highly recommend the passion fruit tart and chocolate fondant for dessert.

2 /5 Alexander Buyanov: We came here for one night as a group of friends. A wedding was happening at the same time, and maybe because of that our experience wasn’t the best. Still, for a venue that regularly hosts weddings, I would expect smooth organization regardless. It felt odd to be mixing with the wedding guests and using the same bar, but we didn’t mind too much. What was less enjoyable was being seated in an empty room with just four tables and a lot of unused space. It gave the impression of a temporary setup rather than a proper restaurant atmosphere. Service was friendly and the staff genuinely tried, but execution was poor. Our wine order was mixed up (red instead of white), we got two of the same beers in different glasses (possibly they ran out), and one of our dishes was wrong (a starter instead of a main). Food was unfortunately the weakest part. Quality varied from bad to average. The pork was dry and chewy, and the risotto was extremely plain. None of it justified the price. Perhaps the wedding meant the venue was understaffed, but again, if weddings are a regular part of their business, they should be prepared for such situations.
