5 /5 Abdul Aziz: I popped into Tawa Grill on 2 November with my two sons, knowing it would be our last visit before they close on 3 November after their lease couldn’t be renewed. It’s a real shame for Gants Hill — I’d say it’s a genuine loss to the local food scene.
We ordered the Lahori Tawa Grill billed for 2–3 people. What arrived was enormous — honestly big enough to feed a family of five — and packed with authentic, well-balanced flavours. The spices felt true to form rather than overplayed, and everything tasted fresh and simply delicious. We also tried the samosa chaat, which hit the right notes of tang and crunch, and the mango lassi was spot on — creamy and not overly sweet.
Service was impeccable from start to finish. The front-of-house were attentive, friendly and efficient; nothing to complain about there. It made the evening feel a little special, particularly knowing it was their penultimate night.
If there’s a caveat, it’s not about the food or service but the bittersweet context: they’re closing because the lease has run out and, at time of writing, they haven’t secured a new premises. I sincerely hope they manage to reopen elsewhere — this is a kitchen worth keeping in the neighbourhood.
Overall: excellent, authentic food, generous portions and top-notch service. Gants Hill will miss it.
