The Clarence Tavern - (Near , South East)

5 /5 Stephanie Davis: A fine dining establishment on Stoke Newington Church Street. We had reservations for lunch. The service was excellent. I chose to share the chicken, leek, and bacon pie, along with a side of delicious buttered greens. The childrens fish and chips looked so good, as well. I wish I were younger!

BUT service was a bit of a letdown - they placed the wrong order for us and didn’t really do anything to amend it or accommodate, which was slightly annoying but nonetheless doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s a great pub

4 /5 Ella: Visited for a large family event and the food was delicious! However it wasn’t made clear that some of the plates on the specials board were intended as sides/starters instead of mains, leading to some of us having a lot less food then the others. The sides we did order same significantly after the main plates (I had finished mine) which was a bit of a shame. It’s a lovely building and the staff were nice.

5 /5 Charlotte Gallagher: We had the great pleasure of hosting our wedding reception at the Clarence Tavern in late 2025. In the lead up to the event, the team- shout out to Sam, Giulia and Harry- were really helpful and enthusiastic in helping us to plan the perfect day in the space, selecting the most delicious menu and curated drinks list, and adding special and personal touches. On the day, the pub was set up exactly as discussed and exceeded our expectations, the staff team did everything they could to accommodate us and our guests making sure that everyone was looked after - they were absolutely brilliant! Our guests told us that the staff couldn’t do enough for them. Where do I even start on the food... Nearly everyone we spoke to said it was the best wedding food they had EVER had - and we had so many messages to this effect the next morning. Our friends and family are still talking about the food!!! Special shout out to the dauphinois, ox cheek, trout, whipped fave and kalettes, stuffed aubergine, the riseley pie, the apple crumble, the cod croquettes, gambas, polenta. I appreciate I’ve listed the nearly whole menu but it was ALL stand out! The wine also paired really well and the muscat also went down a treat. I could go on for hours but just 10/10! Later in the evening we had a band and a DJ, which worked brilliantly in the space. The evening cocktails were delicious, and the late-night food was the perfect touch to make sure no one went home hungry! 5 /5 Diego Llumigusin: I stopped by here as a gig I was going to was running late. So unplanned. I quickly looked at the Michelin guide app and found this place around the corner. It did not disappoint. Firstly, the staff there were lovely. The head of the staff was very confident and friendly - he made me feel like I was in good hands and I was confident the meal was going to be great. Menu arrived quickly along with the specials and they were quick in taking my order. I ordered the tomatoes, anchovy and walnuts starter dish, the pork main and the basque cheesecake. Every single one was fantastic. The flavour in the starter was unreal. The only thing to make it better would be a small portion of bread to soak up the beautiful tomato juice left over on the plate. The pork main was amazing. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The corn base was very inventive and the mustard? Seeds gave the dish a proper kick. And who doesn’t love a basque cheesecake?? I’m not usually in this part of london but if I ever am again, I’ll definitely be back and recommend others to try.
