The Cooks Tale Restaurant - (Near Kent, South East)

1 /5 Danny 4Q: We had high hopes for this place as it is michelin star rated. We went to a michelin star rated indian last wknd (Dastaan) and it was fantastic. Shame the same cannot be said for this one. We made a reservation in advance, upon arrival we were seated very quickly, but then kept waiting for a very long time. It was more than 20 mins before we could even order drinks. We decided to skip starters and went straight for mains. For a bit of variety I ordered the meat and seafood Thali, Mrs ordered the veg thali and daughter lamb thali. On my thali there was a lamb, chicken and fish curry. The mackerel curry was nice, the chicken was ok, but there wasnt much of it as there was a bone in it. The lamb curry however wasnt very nice at all. Watery, lacked flavour and had a lot of fat on it. My daughter refused to eat the lamb curry which was in her thali. The curried potatoes were very basic, the paneer curry again sub par. How this restaurant has got michelin stars is beyond me. We come from London and this isnt anywhere near the quality of other non michelin star restaurants. Neither is the service anywhere as good. I think due only to the lack of indian restaurants in Canterbury this restaurant has the alleged praise. Oh and just to add, the prices are astronomical for a sub par indian. I fed back to the waiter that the lamb wasnt very nice, to which there wasnt much response, or much effort made to rectify the situation. Needless to say we wont be returning.

5 /5 Patt Ferrari: The pea & artichoke warmer was a surprise, smooth & tasty. I had 2 starters, smoked coconut chicken with garlic & coriander Naan, easily shareable, juicy, with 2 sauces, one quite fiery, the other that went well with the smoked chicken.there was enough that it could be a main! Do like to play with your food? The beet samosa was incredible! Pouring 7 sauces on, layering the flavors and textures,it was a workout for all my tastebuds. 1 sauce was spicier than Im used to, but a bite of onion or sweet sauce took the fire off. I could eat the cardamom sauce on the mango kulfi dessert on many different things. Excellent Pino grigio from Charthem Villages cleaned the fiery notes & was light & refreshing.

5 /5 Molly Brown: We came on Friday evening for the Odisha Tasting Experience at £150pp with matching drinks. The menu was amazing, each dish having a backstory of where it orientated and lovely cocktails for each dish. This tasting menu with 10 courses is amazing value. We have been to the Cooks tale quite frequently over the last few years and always have an amazing meal and amazing service! Thank you

5 /5 Adam Cohen: A Sunday Roast like no other. Great service, great food all at a very reasonable prices. 1 oclock on Sunday afternoon and we were suprised to find the restaurant was quite empty. Was given a nice Windows seat with a view of the scaffolding! And that is where I could only hope visit would get better and it did. We ordered the pot roast Tandoori chicken and awaited out feast. It is all cooked to order, we knew it would take around an hour to arrive. What we did not expect what a small taster menu to be served up whilst waiting. The tasters where delicious and made the time pass quicker. And when the pot roast arrive it came with further selection of sides. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted devine. Chef Dev know his food and how to fuse his cusines perfectly. Definitely one to try when in Canterbury.

Our stomachs full, our taste buds delighted, and our hearts happy. We ordered the saffron chicken plate and the lamb plate, beginning with fried sardines as a starter, which were fresh and absolutely delicious. Between our starters and main courses, we were treated to a selection of complimentary tasters, each showcasing beautiful flavours inspired by Indian cuisine, elevated with a refined and creative culinary twist. This restaurant is undoubtedly our go-to destination in Canterbury, especially for celebrating special occasions. What truly sets it apart, however, is the hospitality. Guests are welcomed with genuine warmth and care, and the service is consistently attentive, friendly, and professional. A restaurant that is worth every penny, and every moment, of your visit!
