Sailors Church - (Near , South East)

1 /5 S. R.: We tried twice in the last week. It has been closed. It is a beautiful church - visited it many times last year. Very disapponted with what is happening now

5 /5 K K: The Sailors Church was built in the mid 19th century to minister to the the men and boys who fished out of Ramsgate, and to provide accommodation for the fishing apprentices (also known as Smack Boys) and emergency space for shipwrecked sailors. The church itself is essentially rectangular and occupies the ground floor of the three-floor building. The rooms above, and the building next door, originally served as living quarters. The interior of the church is quite plain.

5 /5 Sheila Ward: I have walked round Ramsgate so many times but on a different route this morning and found this by accident..a lovely peaceful church, and a reminder of the life that all sailors face, the dangers and the beauty..I found it very thought provoking

4 /5 Rob Cursons: Opened in 1878, a red brick building with a blue brick banding which has Sailors Home inscribed on the central gable. The church is a Grade II listed building, inside there was a dormitory which was used for survivors from shipwrecks. Its a fascinating place, there are cabinets and pictures inside that paint a picture of the area and tell the story of the building.

4 /5 Anthony Howe: Not alot to see but good to see what there was. Some nice photos of the area and good models of the boats, all done tastefully.
