3 /5 Donna: I booked for 12 people for our work Christmas meal and the service was generally good and food generally good, but there was some weirdness.
When I arrived early to put out crackers, I found wed been given two tables of 6, splitting the group in half, even though the restaurant was empty and there was room for a long table of 12. So I spoke to the owner and we rearranged the tables and moved. The restaurant didnt have much of an atmosphere, I hoped things would pick up once all of our group arrived.
A waiter brought out 12 bottles of water which we had not ordered. I asked for a jug of tap water which the waiter seemed reluctant to bring.
One member of our party can speak Persian so he did the ordering. The dips and bread were very nice, but we had to keep asking for more bread as it came out in teeny tiny portions.
For the main course we had big platters of meat and rice - all were very nice.
The real weirdness came when the bill arrived. £24 had been added for bottled water. Only a few bottles had been drunk, so they were counted up and bill revised. We split the bill, I collected the money and we paid in cash. I handed it to the owner, she counted it and was happy. However, about 15 minutes later, coats were on and I was actually out the door when the owner came to tell me she had made a mistake and had miscalculated the bill! Another £65 was due.
I eat out a lot, I love trying new restaurants and often organise big group outings like this. We have never had a bill issued incorrectly TWICE. This was ridiculous. One of the group paid the difference on his card, then we collected the money for him.
This is absolutely not how to run a business. Its a shame as the food was overshadowed by the service.
Sadly, I wont be visiting again. The restaurant only had two other patrons that evening and I wonder if they were also charged for water they didnt order or if there was a problem with their bill.
